2016 Fayette Philanthropy Project

The Community Foundation of Fayette County’s (CFFC) popular Fayette Philanthropy Project will get underway on March 1 and will run through September 30, 2016. Any individual, team or non-profit agency may participate.in this competition to fundraise for any of the CFFC’s 150 charitable Funds or to create a new Fund.

Fayette Philanthropy Project participants must raise at least $2,000 for the Fund they select. Any type of fundraising activity can be held including guest bartender, walks, runs, lunch or dinner events. Whomever raises the most will receive a weekend at Nemacolin Woodland Resort and earns the title of Fayette County’s newest philanthropist. Runners-up will also receive prizes.

Last year’s winner was Jim John, who created the Matthew Ryan John Memorial Fund, which supports programs that raise awareness of the impact of destructive decisions. Also participating in the 2015 competition were: Gina Jones, Jim Protin and Ryan Galiotto. All created new charitable Funds with the CFFC.

All participants will be profiled in local media and in the Connellsville Crossroads magazine. Winners will be honored at the Fayette Philanthropy Dinner in October, along with some of the region’s most notable philanthropists.

2016 Non-Profit Leadership Series Offered

The Community Foundation of Fayette County, in partnership with the Fayette County Cultural Trust and DeOrio Strategies Group, is announcing the dates for this year’s Non Profit Leadership Program.

The Non-Profit Leadership Program is an affordable, intensive training course for those interested in non-profit management and board service. It consists of a series of six workshops designed to guide and inform community leaders and to strengthen the non-profit sector. The program includes detailed sessions covering leadership, governance, strategic planning, grantwriting, sustainability, finance, marketing and social media.

Classes are taught by Rob DeOrio of DeOrio Strategies Group and Gina Jones. Total cost for the six session course is $100 per person or $25 per individual session. All sessions will be held at the Connellsville Canteen, 131 West Crawford Ave., Connellsville, PA.

Dates for the workshops are as follows: March 2 (leadership), 16 (governance), 30 (strategic planning); April 13 (finance), 27 (grantwriting/sustainability) and May 11 (marketing/social media). The sessions begin at 5:30 pm with a light meal, followed by instruction from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  This Program is open to anyone with an interest in non-profits.

Fall Grants Awarded

The Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC) Chairperson, Jim Foutz announced today that 6 organizations serving Fayette County will be awarded a combined total of $16,600 in the 2015 Fall Cycle. Funding for these awards is made possible through the CFFC general grantmaking program, and through funds held at the CFFC, including The Nelson Foundation Fund and The Burchinal Fund.

Organizations receiving support include: The Connellsville Redevelopment Authority (for the city’s economic and fiscal health planning workshop); Demi Brae Cuccia Awareness Program (teen dating violence awareness program); Fayette County Community Action Agency (foodbank refrigeration project); Genesis House (transitional housing for men); Mountain Fellowship Center (for renovations to the Center); Private Industry Council (for the after school food and nutrition program).

“The Community Foundation has a long history of service to our community, and since 1999, we have awarded millions of dollars to Fayette County non-profits. These grant awards represent our program interests including education, arts and culture, health and human services, and economic development,” said Foutz.

The Community Foundation was founded in 1999 and is widely recognized as a significant regional resource for donors and nonprofit organizations. The CFFC holds the distinction of accreditation from the Council on Foundations.

Chevron Community Fund Awards Springs Grants

The Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC) and Chevron announced today the Spring Cycle Grant Awards from the Chevron Community Fund. Nine organizations will receive awards totaling $40,000.

Organizations receiving support include: Brownsville Area School District (for a zSpace application and software package for Brownsville Area High School); City Mission – Living Stones (for the women’s shelter operations); Connellsville Community Ministries (for food vouchers for the Connellsville farmers market); Fayette County Career and Technical Institute (for a 3 day summer camp for Albert Gallatin middle school students); Fayette County Cultural Trust (for the Rural Arts Collaborative); Fay Penn Economic Development Council (for scholarships to enable three students to attend the Leaders Academy); Greater Uniontown Heritage Consortium (for the community production of Mary Poppins); Imagination Library (for books for 100 children), and Western Pennsylvania Conservancy – Fallingwater (for the Learning Through Architecture program for Fayette County schools)

The Chevron Community Fund was created in partnership with the Community Foundation of Fayette County with the goal of improving the social and economic well being of the communities where Chevron employees live and work.Since 2012, the Chevron Community Fund has provided more than $300,000 in grants to numerous charities throughout Fayette and neighboring counties.

Funding for these wards is made possible through the CFFC general grantmaking program, and through funds held at the CFFC, including The Charity Fund and The Burchinal Fund.

Organizations receiving support include: Alternative Yes (for the Earn while you Learn Parenting Program); Brownsville Area Revitalization Corp (for renovations to the Flatiron Building); Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Laurel Region (for the literacy program); City Mission – Living Stones (for the women’s shelter operations);; Christian Layman Corp (for food bank deliveries in Fayette County); Fayette County Blind Association (for a new educational program for the blind); Fayette County Cultural Trust (for the Rural Arts Collaborative); German Masontown Library (for purchase of tables); Greater Uniontown Heritage Consortium – State Theatre (for the community production of Mary Poppins), and Mountain Watershed Association (for the completion of the Indian Creek Valley Trail).
